Lisa Henning, The Examiner's 2009 volleyball Player of the Year, is a repeat performer on the PrepVolleyball.com High School All-American team. The Blue Springs High School senior is the lone area repeat performer on the elite squad. She is joined by Examiner All-Area standout Marianne Beal, who attends Lee's Summit North High School, and O'Hara's Tori Hurtt, who is coached by William Chrisman graduate Lori Hanaway.

For four years, Lisa Henning enjoyed great success at Blue Springs High School. The brilliant 6-foot-1 middle hitter helped the Wildcats claim four consecutive Suburban Big Seven Conference championships and she capped her career by leading Blue Springs to a state final four berth. Although Ozark beat the Wildcats 28-26, 22-25, 25-17 in the Class 4 state championship match, Henning led all players with 16 kills.

Pittsburg State University head volleyball coach Ibraheem Suberu picked up five players during the early signing period. The Gorillas signed Katie Wright, Kelsey Sullivan, Lauren Brentlinger and Kirsten Erickson to National Letters of Intent and Abbie Smith to an Institutional Declaration of Intent. She attends Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart and is coached by Robin Etter.

Katie is an accomplished setter with a strong training background from her years at River City Juniors   -Ibraheem Suberu

The Blue Springs volleyball team came up agonizingly short of its first state championship. For the first time in school history, Blue Springs has reached the championship round of the Class 4 final four. Coach Katie Grusing's Wildcats opened with a 25-15 round-robin loss to Ozark, then claimed a 29-27 victory to even their Final Four record at 1-1. The Wildcats followed with a 25-22, 27-25 over defending state champion St. Joseph's Academy and clinched the championship berth with a 25-19, 25-12 victory over Incarnate Word Academy to wrap up Friday's round-robin play with a 5-1 mark.
